Teeth Whitening in La Palma

Does teeth whitening damage or weaken teeth enamel? Our dentist in La Palma, Dr. Scarlet Vasa, takes the time to discuss this common question in this video.

In this video, Dr. Ankit Vasa discusses at-home teeth whitening methods and how they compare to a professional teeth whitening treatment.

What is Teeth Whitening?

Whitening your teeth professionally is a great way to remove years worth of stains and discoloration. Teeth can become stained for a variety of different reasons, and many over-the-counter products simply aren’t strong enough to deliver dramatic, effective results. We offer both in-office whitening as well as take-home professional whitening options to meet your needs. In some cases, we can combine the two treatments for both short and long-term results.

Why would Teeth Whitening be needed?

If you’re planning to attend an event, like a wedding, you might be trying to look your absolute best. Likewise, if you’ve been avoiding seeing or meeting people because of your smile, it might be time for a dramatic change. Some of the different things that can cause your smile to look dulled and yellowed include:

  • Smoking and smokeless tobacco
  • Drinking a lot of coffee, tea, cola and fruit juices
  • Enamel wear often caused by acid erosion
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Certain medications
  • Aging

What makes you a candidate for Teeth Whitening?

In order to be considered a good candidate for whitening, your teeth should be otherwise healthy. If you have cavities or need other work, it’s a good idea to consider treatment prior to sitting for whitening. Whitening is most beneficial for older teens and adults, and it is often not recommended for pediatric patients. We can examine your teeth to determine if whitening is right for you and your smile goals.

What happens during the Teeth Whitening process?

The whitening process can be done either in our office or in the comfort of your own home. For in-office whitening, we apply a patented and controlled gel formula to your teeth. This gel is activated with a bright light while you sit comfortably in one of our operatories. After about 30 to 60 minutes, the whitening is complete and you’ll be amazed at how bright, white and healthy your teeth look. For take-home whitening, we’ll make customized trays using impressions of your teeth. We then provide you with a controlled gel formula and instructions on how to use the whitening trays at home.
