Fluoride Treatment in La Palma

Dr. Ankit Vasa takes a moment to discuss flossing and the efficacy of Waterpik flosses.

What are Fluoride Treatments?

Fluoride treatments are designed to protect and strengthen your teeth. You can typically find fluoride in most dental products and even in some public water supplies. Unfortunately, if you’re not getting enough fluoride, your teeth can become weak, making them more prone to decay. Fluoride treatments are most beneficial for children, but even adults can benefit from having the fluoride applied to their teeth in our office.

Why would Fluoride Treatments be needed?

The reason fluoride treatments might be needed is because you’re more prone to tooth decay. Fluoride can protect your teeth from developing cavities, which can prevent the need for future fillings and root canals. For children, fluoride is an essential part of keeping their smile looking its best. Because children don’t always have the best brushing and flossing habits, fluoride helps to prevent decay that would otherwise become a problem.

Who is a candidate for Fluoride Treatments?

Most patients who want fluoride treatments can and should consider this option. There is absolutely no age limit when it comes to who would benefit from fluoride. While the treatment is most often applied to pediatric teeth, it can and should be considered if you’re an adult who is looking to further protect their smile. You can request to have fluoride treatments done at virtually any future appointment.

What happens during the Fluoride Treatment process?

The fluoride treatment process will begin by cleaning and drying the teeth. We then apply a thin layer of fluoride varnish to each tooth. The fluoride is given time to absorb into the tooth before you leave the office. You should avoid brushing, eating, drinking or rinsing for about an hour following your appointment so that the fluoride is able to fully absorb into the teeth. Fluoride is safe and is used regularly to keep teeth protected and strong. For children, these fluoride treatments could mean fewer cavities to deal with at each checkup visit.
