Dental X-Rays in La Palma
What are Dental X-rays?
A dental x-ray allows us to see below the surface of your teeth and gums. Many dental-related conditions and problems can only be seen on a dental x-ray. X-rays use a small amount of radiation, so they’re deemed a safe treatment option when coming into our office for care. X-rays are beneficial for both adult and pediatric patients, and they’re often taken during checkup visits, prior to oral surgery and before a root canal is performed.
Why would Dental X-rays be needed?
Because x-rays give us a detailed and in-depth view of your dental health, they’re a critical part of providing you with the care that you need. X-rays are safe for patients of all ages, and the benefits of having them taken far outweigh any possible risks involved. Some of the reasons an x-ray might be necessary include:
- Spotting areas of decay (cavities)
- Finding abscesses and infections
- Locating impacted wisdom teeth
- Monitoring the development of pediatric patients
- Finding canals prior to a root canal
- Finding areas of bone loss
- Getting a clear view of your smile as a new patient
Who is a candidate for Dental X-rays?
Because x-rays use such a small amount of radiation, they’re considered safe for the majority of patients coming into our office. Children especially can benefit from x-rays because these images allow us to spot cavities before the decay is allowed to get worse. You can expect to have x-rays taken at the majority of your appointments. You can even request a copy of your dental x-rays at any time in our office.
What happens during the Dental X-ray process?
The dental x-ray process will begin with one of our trained staff members draping a lead apron over your body. A tiny device is then positioned inside the mouth. The x-ray machine is aimed at this device and the image is taken. The device is moved and another x-ray taken. This process is repeated until all of the necessary x-rays have been taken. We will then carefully review these images prior to providing you with treatment.
