Bruxism Therapy in La Palma
Dr. Ankit Vasa discusses teeth grinding and how you can identify certain signs that may point to you having Bruxism.
What is Bruxism Therapy?
Bruxism is the technical term for tooth grinding. Many people grind their teeth, especially when they’re sleeping and unaware of what they’re doing. Excessive bruxism can lead to tooth problems, jaw pain, and flat-looking teeth. We offer therapy in the form of a special night guard that is worn each night.
What is Bruxism Therapy Needed?
If left untreated, bruxism can get worse and lead to a range of different oral-related problems. This is why it is best to seek treatment as soon as possible. Some of the things that bruxism can cause if left untreated include:
- Flat-looking teeth
- Cracked or broken teeth
- Broken restorations (crowns, bridges)
- TMJ pain and problems
- Headaches
Who is a Good Candidate for Bruxism Therapy?
We will examine your teeth to identify issues with bruxism. Oftentimes, bruxism is so severe that a simple oral evaluation can help us to identify the problem. If it’s found that you have bruxism, we’ll offer therapy and treatment options specific to your needs. This will help to eliminate the damage bruxism can cause to your teeth and surrounding bone.
What Can You Expect with Bruxism Therapy?
We begin by taking impressions of your teeth and mouth. These molds are used to create a brand new mouth guard for you. Because the mouth guard is custom fitted to your mouth, it’s comfortable and works effectively. It is important that you wear this mouth guard nightly in order for it to be effective. If the guard begins to show signs of wear, we can easily replace it in our office using impressions taken of your mouth and teeth. Professional mouth guards are helpful in preventing bruxism because they provide a cushion between the teeth so that grinding is impossible. Even if you spend the entire night grinding your teeth, you’re doing so on a cushioned piece of soft rubber or plastic. This prevents problems associated with bruxism so that you can save the health of your teeth.
